During an October 19 appearance on The Austin Rhodes Show, Columbia County Commission Chair candidates Alison Couch and Cambrey Wood offered different perspectives on whether residents believe the potential property tax relief from data centers is worth the trade-offs.
Wood questioned whether many residents would consider the size and scope of the developments an acceptable trade-off for property tax relief. Couch disagreed, saying she had heard from many residents across Columbia County who were excited about the anticipated tax revenue and the prospect of lower property taxes.
Both perspectives raise a larger question: What do Columbia County residents think about data center development?
I am conducting a community survey to gather residents’ opinions about existing data center projects, potential future development, expectations for property tax relief, and related concerns.

The anonymous survey is open to Columbia County (GA) residents through October 27, 2026, 12:00:00 PM EDT, and takes approximately 3–5 minutes to complete.
This is a voluntary, non-scientific survey. Participation is self-selected, and the results will reflect the views of respondents rather than a statistically representative sample of Columbia County residents.
Results and analysis will be published on The Columbia County Observer after the survey closes.
